The 1983 Cricket World Cup (aka Prudential Cup, 1983) was the third edition of
the tournament. It was held from 9 June to 25 June 1983 in England. India had
won only one match in their previous two World Cups and dethroned the mighty
West Indies in the final held on 25th June.

In the first semi-final, at Old Trafford on 22 June, England won the toss and
batted first. India reached their target in 54.4 overs, winning by 6 wickets in
an upset victory over the previous tournament's runner-up.
